Replacing laptop screen

Go to solution Solved by FastRDust,

Sorry to tell you but laptop monitors from different brands arent plug and play.

a normal monitor is universal because the EDID chip in the display tells what it is to the computer and the resolution etc.

A monitor in the laptop is only the panel without the smarts, so your laptop wil not recognise or even see the panel.

and thus not be able to use it.

Think the screen from the dell inspiron 3520 will fit in the asus a53e? theyre the same size specs wise and I dont see a huge difference, I ask because Im looking at getting the asus model and what Im looking at needs a new screen. Im too cheap to pay $50 on a screen for a laptop that old but Ive got a 3520 I may have fried dicking around with. I'll double check the width and hieght but other than that should there be any reason it would go peachy?

  • Dell

  • Asus (I think)

And I know there are newer laptops, that point is moot. This is just a lil project for me that I can bring to school and stuff and not worry about breaking or something, or worry about modding wrong.

You're not gaining anything from going from the Dell to the Asus. The difference between the i3 and i5 is virtually non-existent.
