AMD R9 Series rebranding

Hey guys and girls

 

I've got a 7950s crossfire setup and i'm looking to replace one of them because it is too loud.

Now the problem is that there are almost no 7950s available anymore here in germany so i'm asking if there's a rebranded 7950 in the new series.

i know that 280X is a rebranded 7970ghz but that would be a bit of wasted money if i take this to crossfire it with a 7950.

A R9-280 would be a 7950 if it existed, but you could crossfire your other 7950 with a 7870XT, 7970, 7970ghz and a 280X

ok damn, i hoped that the 270x would be a 7950 rebranded but sadly not. i think i'm gonna see if i can improve my cooling of the card in question rather than buying a gpu that would yield wasted performance.

the 384 bits cards are in the R9 280 category  (and the 256 bits cards are in the 270 category)

 

so, any 7950 card will be in the 280 zone  :rolleyes:

R7 260X = 7790

R9 270 = About 7850

R9 270X = 7870 GHz Edition

R9 280X = 7970 GHz Edition

R9 290/290X = Unparalleled by last-gen

 

Those are approximations of performance for the current generation. There is no R9 280, but I think it would be awesome if there was. You would probably either be better off buying an R9 280X and underclocking it, or selling your current card on eBay or something, and buying a new card.

i'm gonna buy the Gelid Icy Vision A for my loud card (it's about $40). i think buying a more expensive card would be wasted.
