Video Request - Homemade laptop

What do you guys think about a video where LTT makes a homemade laptop? They could get an old rigid briefcase, put a monitor in the lid, and put the PC parts and surge protector in the bottom. It would take 1 cord to power, and give you a terrible, yet amusing, laptop experience.

Also, is there a place where we can actually post video ideas, or do they just belong here, in general discussion?

Why a briefcase? You can 3d print a case / parts of the case. Put a Mini ITX MoBo in there, maybe with a small PSU and GFX card... It would be an interesting project. It cannot be worse than the :

- Morrow Pivot Personal Computer

- Compaq III

- IBM 5155 Portable

The Gfx card could be mounted using a PCIE extension cable

I think with the right parts @Linus can totally pull it off

AMD Ryzen 3950x under a Noctua D15S, 32 Gb G Skill FlareX 3200 DDR4 running at 3200 CL14, Gigabyte Aorus Pro 570 Wifi, Gigabyte 2070 Super hooked to a Dell U2718Q 4k HDR monitor & an Acer 1440p 144hz IPS panel of some kind, an Inland 1 TB M.2 PCIE 4 main drive, a Samsung NVME M.2 250Gb, WD Blue 500Gb  and 1 TB SSDs, Corsair RMX750, Rainbows and butterflies...

I was just thinking a briefcase would allow for solid starting point. It would be portable, foldable, and fit a small monitor/keyboard/trackpad. From my experience with 3D printing, making an entire folding mechanism out of plastic would be difficult, expensive, and less reliable than a briefcase.

I've seen such a thing in person and, while it's a cool diy project, I don't think it would make for a very interesting video. It's really not hard to do it, the only challenge is finding a UPS that doesn't weigh a ton and lasts a reasonable amount of time. There wouldn't be any hardware porn or big revelations and it wouldn't really be cost effective.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

3D-printing isn't a particularly good choice; the components weigh quite a lot and, due to how FDM-printing works, the 3D-printed parts would have to be pretty thick to be able to handle the weight. It'd be okay for making smaller details and such, but the major parts that bear most of the weight and give the case its rigidity would be best either cut from aluminum-sheets or similar, IMHO.
