Thinking of raiding 2 storage drives after the instal of windows 8

Hello all,

At the moment i have Windows 8.1 installed on my pc, it has a MSI Z77A GD65 mobo and a samsung 830 ssd.

I also have a WD green with all photos, steam games and other stuff on it.

I have been thinking for a while about using built in raid controller on the motherboard and buying a couple of drives for photograph backups, but i have a few questions.

- ahci mode is enabled, will changing this to raid break anything ?

- how good is the onboard raid - i really dont want to get a expensive raid card like linus !

- if the mobo dies how will i get my data back ?

- has anyone had used onboard raid with this motherboard and can you provide any pointers?

Thanks Guys (and gals) !

1) Shouldn't

2) Good enough, for the general consumer

3) You would have to buy the same motherboard and configure the raid.

thanks :)

I would probably wait for other peoples responses. Although I own a raid 0, I'm not that knowledgeable.
