nonononononononononononono please don't get a gaming headset plz.

Get some dt990 pros or ad700x's. They beat gaming headsets in every way imaginable (except for not having a mic). Surround sound is just a gimmick and does nothing for you except make the sound more muddy. If you need the mic get a modmic.

If you want bass, a gaming headset will not give it to you. Go for a dt990 pro. That one of the most bass heavy cheaper high fidelity open backed headphones. 7.1 is not good at all unless it's true 7.1. On every gaming headset it is simulated 7.1, which does not give you any advantage in games.

You're mixing advertising to reviews.

That bling bling look is all cheapest Chinese production gaming trinkets have for going for themselves.

And the more marketing hype the cheaper Chinese excrement product is.

ATH-AD700x is struggling to have even neutral bass, like other headphones of that serie.

DT990 has good above neutral bass punch.

And is actually overall really capable for gaming.

(one of the better ones from those with strong bass)

It's that "true" 7.1 which is total marketing BS.

Cramming in garbage truck load of even cheaper and worser trinket drivers won't give any proper sound.

We hear in 3D because head and outer ears cause direction dependant changes to signal received by both ears from sound source.

That's called binaural sound.

(that behaviour of sound also creates smooth 360 degree sound with good surround home theater set)

Besides dummy head recording capturing those binaural cues, they can be also simulated mathematically from surround sound of game.

Sound cards started doing that lot before this current gaming trinket headphone fad.

(without Microsoft killing DirectSound in Vista, sound cards would do it from true 3D sound data of game)

Resulting binaural simulation sound just requires good headphones instead of cheap trinkets.

(any smoothed treble etc tuning isn't good either)

Now despite of hyped name Dolby Headphone is sure very average with strong bass bloat and heavy feel of public bath.

But Creative's algorithm avoids that bass bloat.

With good headphones you even get feel of distance instead of all sounds coming from next to ear.

Of course if your head shape differs more from average, then binaural cues your brain has learned to process are different and you're out of luck.

(though Creative is finishing tech with head and ear shape customizable HRTF)

For price DT990 Pro is very good for balanced/fun gaming.

In "competitiveness" ATH-AD700x would be step ahead, but ATH-AD500-900 serie just doesn't have much of bass with upper bass just at neutral level... And lower/mid bass very weak.

That balancing between "fun factor" and maximal details is simply always there and you can't have good bass punch and best details at the same time.

Youd likely need an external DAC/AMP. A popular choice is Schiit Audio or JDS stack.

I believe you can, however it comes at a cost and weight. My LCD-X’s sound like distant speakers almost. The sound stage isn’t the biggest but it’s very accurate.

Yeah, off the charts bass boom is one type of gaming trinkets.

For details they're like putting head into bucket under water, because what ever other sounds they make is accidental.

Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro is that point after which bass starts seriously drowning details.

In closed headphone it would already do it because of "lacking room" for other sounds, but open headphones fare better.

AKG K712 would be another headphone for balanced gaming, but costs twice as much as DT990 Pro in Europe and even more in US.

Audio-Technica AD-line is in comparison bassless with their falling below neutral bass.

If there even is an option - borrow DT900s and AD900s from a store and check them out by yourself - everybody has different taste when it comes to sound. Otherwise i would record some samples from games that i play and check those headphones in a store (even playing audio from a phone).

Just 2 months ago my friend bought Logitech headset. Me and my friends told him to give those back and to go window shopping for good headphones and external mic. So he did. Headsets are terrible.

i dont knnow of any GOOD stores for that in my area.

so sadly no option for that. i found the dt900pro for a good price and reviews of it seem good so i might as well go for them and hope for the good.
