Hello,

My friend is in school for architecture desgin and wants to build a workstation PC for his rendering projects.

He's told me he uses these programs

Autocad
Revit
3DS MAX
photoshop
Illustrator
Lightroom
Preimere pro
Google sketchup
Rhino
Lumion
Vray
Podium
Blender
Luxrender
Powerpoint
Excel
Word

I've build many gaming PCs but never any workstation PCs no I'm not sure what would be best for what he's doing. His price range is $2-3k CAD.

What would be the best build?

Thank you everyone

Id probably go 2950x here. It will be good in all of those tasks, and is a pretty good value aswell. Also get a reasonble gpu like a 1070, depending on how much gpu rendering your doing.

So AMD over INTEL for workstation PCs?

I probably would, a 7900x would also work fine, cost a bit more and performance will depend on task(worse in 3d rendering, simmlar in editing, and better in things like lightroom and after effects)

Replace 1950x with 2950x.

This looks good but it's in US prices so slightly over budget

Thank you!!

What would you recommend down grading on to make the cost closer to 2k?

GPU or CPU?
