Hey, first time posting on LTT forums but a long time follower. I'll be putting together a new PC pretty soon, just wanted to share what I'm planning and see what the community thought.

Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 350D

Mobo: ASUS A88XM-Plus

CPU: A10-7800 series (Unreleased)

HSF: XIGMATEK Dark Knight II Night Hawk Edition

GPU: PowerColor R9 270

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650

RAM: Crucial Ballistix

SSD: Samsung 840 EVO

I'll be using a 3TB Seagate external drive for the majority of my storage, and may end up purchasing something later down the line. While you were looking you probably noticed there was a yellow/black color scheme, which I actually didn't intend on doing until I found the motherboard and saw there was something I could do with it. From there I decided why not get a few extras, such as:

SilenX EFX-12-12 x4 (Two top exhaust, one back exhaust, one for HSF)

SilenX EFX-14-12 x1 (Front intake)

Zowie Gear FK

Ducky DK9087 Shine 3 TKL Yellow Edition

So what do you guys think? Seem like a solid build? I'll be using it for some gaming among other things, but I'd really like to get some perspective on it. I'm also thinking of maybe getting a giant poster of Wiz Khalifa to hang directly above my wall, that way every time I see my computer and Wiz directly above it I can think to myself: "Yeah, that's cool".

I was also tempted to trash the scheme build, save the peripherals and all that I have currently and just go with a mITX build, I've got some parts picked out already (the CPU being the same).

Case: CM Elite 130

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XN

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650

RAM: AMD Radeon Performance Series

HSF: Gelid Solutions CC-Shero-01-A

With a few Noctua fans for optimal cooling:

Noctua NF-S12A x2 (Intake and HSF)

Noctua NF-R8-1800 x1

No set budget, just what I need. USD. Dual boot Windows 8 and possibly SteamOS or Linux Mint. No set time. Keyboard/mouse listed, I'll be using my 23.6" Acer monitor (don't have the model on hand), my Lepai amp with Micca brand bookshelf speakers.

Because the whole point of an apu is so that you do not have to buy a graphics card. Get an 8320 now and 270x(or an Nvidia counter part).

Edit: Or you can wait until they release a stand alone Kaveri CPU for a fraction of the cost.

The graphics being integrated into the CPU help with more than just gaming, I'll try to find the benchmarking tests of it and get them to you.

At that point I'd rather go with intel tbh

8320:http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd8320frhkbox

And the current APU:http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-ad680kwohlbox

That's a 11ish dollar difference between 4 cores and 8 cores and overall more performance,In this price point for Intel you'ld be looking at a i3.

Unless you live somewhere the prices are totally different I don't know why you would want to go Intel in this price point.

More cores =/= better performance, most applications don't even make use of those extra cores.

It's true that more cores doen't equate to more performance, but at that price point, the 8320 is untouched by anything in the Intel camp.  The i3 and 8320 aren't even close.

Why would you want an iGPU doing work that a regular, more powerful and much more capable GPU could do?

Go with an APU if you like but the 8320 is about the same price as an APU and offers performance beyond anything Intel offers at that price point.

PS: The FM2/+ socket is only good for AMD mini-itx builds IMO.

A rough budget would help.

Why not?

It's either a waste of the dedicated or integrated graphics.

If you use the graphics card, you waste the point of the APU. If you use hybrid crossfire, the graphics card has to slow down to match the apu to the point where the result is slower than the standalone graphics card.

More cores =/= better performance, most applications don't even make use of those extra cores.

If you're looking into gaming, future games might.

On the last week of January, the new APUs will go out on sale.
The 7850k seems to be a pretty powerful CPU, that will be around 180$.
I strongly suggest for you to wait.
On the first weeks of February the reviews will appear. Wait for them and see how much powerful the new A10 would be.
