closest i could get it to 180 euro (205 dollars), you can swap out the case if you want, but you can't go lower than this unless you buy used stuff.

also make sure you get 2 x 4gb ram sticks, not 1 x 8gb, dual channel is important.

Hello everyone,

recently I was thinking about building a new PC and I was thinking about an small form factor PC with mATX Motherboard and around 4 SATA on board connectors.

Since there are a lot of possibilities, I wanted to ask you guys to help me out with this difficult task, since I was always using old Xeon workstations for gaming and build PC's with ATX sized Motherboards.

1. Budget and Location

° I want to spend around 180€ and I'm from Germany.  I want to mention that I already have an Nvidia Quatro 600 GPU, 450w PSU and 1TB Samsung Evo SSD.

2. Aim

° Like I mentioned before, I already own a Nvidia Quatro 600 GPU and I wanted to play Witcher 3 with 120fps, around 80fps at Far Cry 5 and....  okay, just kidding :)  I just want to use it for doing backups with Acronis on a bootable USB Pendrive, Watching Amazon Prime, Watching Netflix and sometimes I would like to emulate FreeDos with VirtualBox. As my OS I would first go with my Windows 7 Ultimate DVD and then use an Windows 10 Pro iso (mount with VirtualClone Drive) in order to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. I already used this method on my refurbished ThinkPad and it still works in 2018. Also I would like to have 8gb of RAM on this new PC.

3. Monitors

° I would like to use it with one 1080p 60hz Monitor and I don't plan to move on to any other screen with bigger resolution.

4. Peripherals

° I don't need any new mouse and keyboard. I also don't need to purchase any license keys since I want to install Windows 7 Ultimate, activate it and then upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

5. Why do I want to upgrade?

° Because my old "PC" is running on a one core intel CPU (don't know the exact model) and it just reached this moment, where it become unusable in 2017-2018.

I bought everything on my birthday in 2007 and paid around 1920pln for it (Polish Złotych/ around 508usd).

Since 2011 I had it mounted on top of an Amazon Prime Cardboard. I'm not joking.. I actually used it like this, and I had 3 HDD's connected to it. One IDE 80GB Drive and two 500gb SATA HDD's.

This PC already was transported through 4 cities at Germany, one hotel night at Poland, one month at my parents house (Poland), two weeks at Bulgaria, one week at an con in the US and two days in Shenzhen. The Amazon cardboard never got broken including all the parts. For 508usd it was a very reliable PC and I still used it to backup all the HDD's that I have in my notebooks and PC's to my 20TB NAS Storage.

In the attachments you can see the current state of this PC. It currently running very old version of Debian with KDE Desktop Environment.

I would be happy to get some help with my new build and hope that there would be something possible with my budget. I think that there would be some money saved if you would recommend me an CPU without any APU since my old Quatro GPU is fast enough for all the tasks, which I gonna do on this new PC.

This isn't any troll post or something like that. I know that I should use an proper case but back then I would have to pay around 300Euro for small form factor PC Case and later on it wasn't really worth to buy any since this crappie peace of cardboard was actually doing it's job.  btw. the DVD drive doesn't have any guts inside : P I just put it in because it looked kinda funny.

@syn2112

You know what.. that's an awesome setup!

It has Intel 1151 CPU Socket and this would give me a lot of room for future upgrades.

If it goes to ram, then I gonna save 9,22usd here at Germany.

That's actually very good because with this saved money I would be able to get rid of Intel's thermal compound paste and use some high quality one like the Arctic MX-4.

Thank you very much and have a nice day :)

im afraid you have no room for future upgrades :/
this is a B250 board meaning it only supports Intel 6th/7th Gen CPU's, maxes out at i7-7700k, but you can't upgrade to that because the motherboard has very weak VRM's, i really wouldn't recommend putting any CPU other than the G4560 in that motherboard, VRM's would probably get cooked.

this one has an upgrade path, AM4 Socket is supported until 2020, i wouldnt recommend putting an 8 Core Ryzen in there, but that motherboard will be fine with a 6 core and a 4 core Ryzen, same reason.. VRM's. (wouldnt recommend overclocking ofc)

its up to you :)

@syn2112

an AMD Ryzen would be a little bit useless for me unless I will start CPU mining what isn't so profitable. I was actually thinking about an upgrade to i5-8600K because at the company where I'm working, I would be able to get it after eight months for free (an used unit) and I heard that there would be a possibility to undervolt this CPU

yes you can undervolt the 8600k but you can't do it on a B250 board (CPU won't even work), you need a Z370 board.

and why do you think the Ryzen is useless? i don't get it.. the 8600k is faster than the Ryzen 3 1200, and has more cores.
