Looking for a laptop

Dell G5/G7 - get UHD panel

HP Omen dc - gamer look

MSI GP63 - gamer look

Zephyrus M - poor battery life

Choose between these

Hey guys,

I'm going to study abroad (in Portugal) for the next 2 years. But I only have a desktop at the moment and I cannot bring it with me. I will bring my monitor (P2715Q) with me, though... So I was thinking to buy a laptop when I arrive in Europe.

I will use the laptop for my classes (I'm studying Computer Engineering, btw) and for gaming. The perfect laptop would have:

  • Intel i7 8th Gen CPU (i7 8750H)
  • GTX 1060
  • A good IPS Display that cover most of the SRGB color space (I'm spoiled by my current monitor =P)
  • Don't look "gamery"
  • Between 1000 and 1300 EUR
  • Decent durability and battery life are also nice

Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time finding a laptop that checks all the boxes. Most laptops in that price range lacks a good display (Dell G3/G5/G7) or looks too "gamery" (Helios 300 and HP Omen). If I bump up the price to 1500 GBP (around 1780 EUR), I can grab the Zephyrus M (https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Zephyrus-GM501GM-EI005T-15-6-Inch-i7-8750H/dp/B07C7F5Q3Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1533677395&sr=8-1&keywords=zephyrus+m), which seems the best option, although I find a little pricey and a 144Hz GSync display is unnecessary.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

Check out the Aero 15x. Its a good laptop with bunch of io and a good display (not 144hz though)

In Europe, unfortunately, the Aero lineup cost 2300 EUR and up, which I find too expensive. A good suggestion, nevertheless.

For under 1300, there are this laptops:

Spending a little more (under 1500EUR), I could grab:

Last, but not least, I could buy Zephyrus M (https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Zephyrus-GM501GM-EI005T-15-6-Inch-i7-8750H/dp/B07C7F5Q3Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1533698906&sr=8-2&keywords=zephyrus) that have all specs that I want, but also some extra features like 144Hz and GSync which drive up the cost. Priced at 1750EUR (1550GBP), I find a little too expensive.

Dell G5/G7 would be perfect, if wasn't for the display. I consider also the XPS 15, but GTX 1050ti is a little too weak.

I'm quite lost with all this options, and a little frustrated that I cannot find in Europe a laptop that checks all the boxes at a reasonable price (between 1000 to 1500 EUR).

So I need help to decide which laptop I should buy.

I have three main questions:

The display on the G5 is as bad as seems to be on the reviews?

At that price point, the Zephyrus M is a good deal?

There is some other laptop that worth considering?
