Should I upgrade My GPU or Run the system into the ground

Taswell

Ive been debating for a couple months if I should try to upgrade my GPU fall but Im not sure what GPU I should get if I do. My i7 is like 4-5 years old now but it benchmarks (3d mark firestrike - 12700) in between the new i3 8100 and the i5 8600 or in between the R1300x and the 1600 on the red side.

My goal would be a 1080 or a 1080ti depending on how pricing goes in the next couple months. After  comparing benchmarks on 3d mark the cpu score jumps like 5000 points on the CPU score and about 7000 on the gpu when you add a 1080, which would make me think that the rx 480 is actually a slight Bottleneck (ewwwww gross word) and adding a 1080 would better utilize my cpu (at least in bench marks). This rx 480 is the most powerful GPU I have ever owned so I don't actually  know how high end the high end is in real life performance. Would I even notice the improvement?

(monitor is 2560x1440 144hz btw)

Option B is just run the system into the ground and update the cpu, motherboard, ram,GPU all at once in like another 2 years or until something dies

Is my logic broken or not?

Non k? You should be fine for a few more years, but it is ddr3 and getting a new comparable ryzen system might be good for your use, you could sell your current setup tower minus the gpu if you wanted to start from scratch.

I wouldn't bother. The 4770 is a good chip. Why do you need the upgrade?

hi.

To be honest, I'd probably wait for the new generation tome come out, as it's kind of right around the corner(from what I've heard, anyway)... :P

Don't get me wrong, but better don't base your purchase decisions solely off of synthetic benchmarks, as these scale almost perfectly, at least in my experience...

Make sure to tag and/or quote people so they get notified... :P:D

Keep your current system.

When Nvidia's next-gen GPUs release, the prices of current stocks of gpus--nvidia and amd--will probably be discounted to help move along sales of next gen.  Watch for sales and you may be able to pick up a discounted 1080/1080ti.  good luck
