Hey LTT & Guys of the Forum,

I'm Prasad from India. I use my PC for Casual Gaming at 1080p, Media Consumption and Office Work. I've been using an AIO System (Lenovo B520) since 2011 with:

Intel Core i5-2310 @ 2.90GHz 4 Core(s)

Lenovo OEM Motherboard

4GB RAM

1TB SSHD

NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M

24" 1080p 3D Vision Display

and the lag, Windows 10 In-compatibility, Blue Screen are some of the issues produced by the system is making me so angry that I wanna burn the PC alive. I'm thinking of upgrading the PC but the recent Race of Core and Development of better technologies in the PC Industry making it a hard choice to pick the components. I've kept a list of components for the pc upgrade like:

Intel Core i5-8600K

Z370 Motherboard

16GB RAM

250GB SSD & 2TB HDD

NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti, etc.,

or

Ryzen 5 2600X

X470 Motherboard

16GB RAM

250GB SSD & 2TB HDD

NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti, etc.,

but now I'm hearing about new Zen Architecture Chips & new Intel 9th Gen Chips about to be released along with the new NVIDIA GTX series. Is it worth the wait for those to be launched or should I go with the current list I have?

Appreciate & Love the Content.

Regards,

Prasad.

Zen 2 chips aren't due out until late Q1-Q2 2019. 9th gen Intel chips are expected to be unveiled this month and probably launched for retail over the following several weeks after the reveal.

At least wait until the Intel chips are revealed. If anything that would lead to price cuts on the 8600K and possibly all Ryzen chips.

In terms of Nvidia wait until their announcement, then decide from there. Once they are launched (even a paper launch), prices on current gen Nvidia cards will drop quite a bit as Nvidia and their partners are currently trying to clear their bloated inventories.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

9th gen is unlikely to compete with Ryzen on Price

But go for a 1060 6GB or RX 570/580 minimum instead of a 1050ti.

You could also just get a cheap R3 2200G machine for now, then toss in a next gen GPU in a few months, and a Ryzen 3000 CPU next year.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Personally, I think that using an 8600k or 2600X is a bit too overkill for 1080p gaming, especially if you are using a GTX1050ti. You are better off going with a cheaper CPU and buying a better graphics card such as a GTX 1060 6GB. I would also wait for the new Nvidia cards to release as the new 1150/2050 could be competitive with the 1060, and the new 1160/2060 could have a similar price but way better performance.

CPUs affect your max potential fps, has nothing to do with resolution.

Should be able to get a 1060 6GB or RX 570/580 into that kind of budget though with an R5 2600 and B450 board.
