Posted August 5, 2018 Hello, planning my first PC build at the moment. Looking to get this motherboard: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-GAMING-7-WIFI-rev-10#kf . Noticed it has both a 4 pin and an 8 pin ecs connector on it. Posted August 5, 2018 The 8-pin EPS 12V is required. The 4-pin ATX 12V connector is optional, and even for a Ryzen 7 2700X overclocked to 4.2 GHz at, let's say 1.425V, doesn't draw enough current for the two connectors to be needed. The 8-pin EPS 12V would handle that CPU within those parameters just fine, and so the extra 4-pin ATX 12V connector for the CPU is unnecessary. A single 8pin EPS connector can output 480W of power, a lot higher than what a 2700x under ambient cooling will draw (~250w, taking VRM efficiency into account) while overclocking without pouring dangerous voltages into it. Of course, dont buy PSUs that are dodgy just because 'it has an 8pin EPS'.
