should i just return my i7 8700k and wait for the i7 9700k/i9?

since i still got like a week of return left.

i think it should be out in 1-2 months

also to those oc,

i got my i7 at 5hz. on the evga ftw z370 board , but for some reason when i put 1.3v i get 1.36-1.37v on windows.

If you can return it with no extra cost it might be worthwhile.

You need to remember a few things:

You need to be on a supported bios BEFORE your return the CPU.

You need to have a board with strong VRM as the 8 core will draw more power.

We are assuming the 9000 series still uses the ring bus architecture which is a good thing for gaming! However increasing the core count with ring bus may result in slightly reduced performance in games that only use 2-4 cores.

this is the latest bios and I don't think support will be out by then, you might want to buy a cheaper CPU for the meanwhile? not sure

If you have a way to sell computer parts I'd hold onto it.

The 9900k won't really replace the 8700k.  It will release on mainstream boards but it's probably going to be priced higher.  So you still have the same resale value.  A low risk for holding on to your cpu and avoiding potential day 1-launch woes, at least imo.
