You'd be wasting your money upgrading on such an old platform, I suggest you try and find a used office pre-built with an i5 2400 on Ebay.

Buying a new cpu for a lga 775 socket would be a complete waste of money. just deal with the fps for now, and save up to get better motherboard, ram and cpu

q6600 supposedly works in the board

I would have agreed with you a few years ago, but because this platform is 11 years old now it would be a complete waste of money.

Sell your current PC, then save as much as you can. For around $350, you can get a system that is modern and outperforms your system.

a q6600 is 9$ shipped , i'd spend 9$ on a q6600 any day

also , buying a 10$ cpu compared to a 350$ machine isn't going to yield a computer that is 35 times faster than his current build with a q6600

It's not worth it these days, there are better options on newer platforms.

if you can find a build thats scales at 10$ i'd be surprised. find a 100$ platform that is 10 times the speed of a q6600 if there's a better option.

Doesn't matter anyway now, the OP says he currently has a Q8300 so going with a Q6600 would be many steps back in terms of performance.

I can verify the i5 2400 is pretty dank, I ran one of those with my 980 Ti before I upgraded to a 6c/12t Xeon (and then an R7 2700X), then it was my secondary PC with a GTX 660, and now it's a smol server because it's the lowest power draw CPU I have.

Would this be considered as a good build? (I already have an HDD ) for 340€ i could get it this summer if i find a last second job.
