Win10 laptop password rip

So I recently found my old Acer aspire | M laptop with Windows 10 and when i tried logging in the password i thought it was wasn't the right one. I've looked everywhere online of how to reset the password; so far I've tried the command prompt fix but i didn't work( I did not see my account name in net user btw). The other methods told me i had to reset the laptop but i have too many pictures and files i would like to keep. So is there any other way to reset my password where i wouldn't have to delete everything on the laptop?

Install linux(run portable linux)  and copy off data and reinstall windows.

my dumb approach would be to get the harddrive out and connect it to a computer to reset it, then put it back on and re install windows

Copy-paste everything you want to save. To external HDD or USB drive. Linux shows all data as is. Its my go-to emergency backup when I can't boot to Windows.
