My girlfriend has a Huawei G8 and a magnetic flip case with a window and when you open the flipthing it shows the lockscreen or what is it called.

I have a Huawei P9 Lite (might buy a P20 Lite in the future) and I have a magnetic flip case without window but same difference and I want this functionality and I'm hoping it's software based when it covers up the light sensor up front or something but I can't seem to find out if it's possible and how.

Usually phone manufacturers are sleazy and enable this functionality with only their proprietery cases, at least this has been my experience with lots of third party and first party cases.

Some third party ones also support this, just make sure that your case supports it.

There is a magnet on case that wakes up the phone via the Hall sensor near the edge of the phone. The magnet might not be making contact. Has it ever worked or did it just recently stop working?

Never worked on my phone but now i saw it on my girlfriends phone and now I want it too :)
