Low performance on 1080 Ti

Hello, this is my first post here and i really hope i can get some help

 

For backstory, i bought a MSI 1080 Ti and slapped it in my rig and since i have been experiencing terrible perfomance on games that should run fine. Examples of this is For Honor, can barely hold 70 fps on high settings at 1080p, GTA V on a good day i reach 40 FPS when out and about with massive stuttering when pausing the game, and i feel like i have tested everything. 

 

Full Specs:

MSI Z170 Gaming M7

I5-6600K @ 3.5 GHz with tubo boost enabled

MSI Geforce GTX 1080 Ti

Corsair H110i 280mm

16 GB DDR4 @ 2133Mhz

Corsair 750w PSU

4x Sata SSD (OCZ-Vertex 4 250GB, Samsung 850 Evo 500GB, Samsung PM851 128GB, Samsung SM841 128GB)

2x M.2 SSD (2x Intel 600P 500GB)

Asus AC56 AC1300 Wireless adapter

 

What i have tried so far:

 

Tested different graphics options (super low-Ultra High)

Tried moving games to different SSD in case they where dying

Reinstalling the games

Reinstalling my computer (Tested the games without installing anything other than drivers and neccesary software required to run them)

Tried my old GPU (Asus ROG STRIX GTX 970) and the issue did not happen

 

What am i missing? contacted MSI about this and they said cooling is the issue, but my CPU is running at 50c @ 100% load and GPU is running 70c @ 100%

 

Someone told me it might be that i am running out of PCIE Lanesa

CPU is the problem. When gaming, it should never be at 100%. that is causing a bottleneck. The GPU has to stop and slow down for the CPU to catch up and causes FPS drops and stuttering. You need to upgrade your CPU.

Thats not exactly true. 6600k is still a decent gaming cpu, just not multi tasking. 

 

Even pcie 3 8x should have plenty of bandwidth for a 1080ti.. Have you done a full Display driver uninstaller (DDU)  to remove all older GPU drivers? This tends to be an issue where people dont remove the old drivers and the current gpu struggles and doesnt work properly.

 

Are you sure its properly selected in the display settings? 

 

Is Vsync or any other thing turned on that could cap the frame rate?

 

Whats the CPU clock speed?

@Skiiwee29 The Cpu does not run at 100% during games, i ment that when i did a stress test it was running at 100% at those temps, in for honor it runs at around 50%

I can that it would be an issue, but no i havent tried it. As i completly reinstalled my computer and wiped every SSD for any data. To insure that i did not take any drivers with me to the new setup i used a VM to create the install media

 

No Vsync is used

Proper display settings are selected

CPU Clockspeed is stock with turbo boost enabled as stated in the original post

At 1080p the load is pushed more cpu then gpu.

I am aware of that

 

But i tried putting it in my old rig that has a 4690K and it is running much better and at around 50% load

 

That simply doesnt make sense
