Hi guys im currently looking into building a pc for gaming from parts, but im stuck as to what processor to go for

Im looking for a £150 (preferable nearer to 100) processor

Matching the processor with a gtx 1060 gfx card,

Looking for 1080p downscaled (to 1600x900) 60fps and as high settings as possible, the main games i want to play are battlefield 1, csgo, gta 5 and possibly a few upcoming releases

Ive not chose parts for a pc in long time and with all the new processors out i really cant tell what i should be getting

Additionally should i be using a 1060 to acheive these these settings or is there anything cheaper or the same price that will give me the same or better performance ( i have a 760 in storage if thats a better choice)

Thanks for any input :)

Go to budget CPU with an upgrade path without swapping Mobos

I looked into the 1600, is the i3 8100 not better for a bit cheaper? Or is that just cheaper assuming your using a z370 mobo?

The 1600 is a much better buy than the 8100. The 1600 can br overclocked using the stock cooler on a B series motherboard.

The 8100 is not the greatest buy. An Ryzen 3 1200/2200G can be bought for less and offers the same performance on a more upgradable plattform while being cheaper

Ok i think im gonna go with the 1600, thoughts on the 1500x? Looks to me like similar performance for a cheaper price without overclocking (im not one for OC anyways)

1500x is fine, though not as good as the 1600. And again offers less value than the 1600. Id recommend a light OC to get the most out of the CPU

Overclocking to 3.7- 3.8 GHz or so is pretty easy on Ryzen even with the stock cooler, the price difference for 2 extra cores should be small enough to be worth it tbh...

Xeon e5649@4.4 GHz on Asus Rampage II Extreme or Gigabyte x58a-OC (whatever I feel like to set up at a time) , 6x4 GB Kingston HyperX 1600, Gainward GTX 670 Phantom, Samsung 840 Evo 240 GB, BeQuiet L8 530W

Thanks im probably gonna go with the 1500x in that case im trying to cap my budget at £500 or less, aby ideas for graphics cards other than the 1060 3gb at the same price or lower?

Yeah but im not too worried about a little performance boost, im trying to keep to a £500 budget and the extra 15 for a few frames doesnt seem worth it, id pay for another 8gb of ram later down the road, plus not many games utilise the extra 2 cores (looking at u arma)

Just use an open air PC to begin with by placing the Mobo on the motherboard box.

This pc will offer more value and be a better plattform to upgrade upon.  You can pick up an Freesync monitor later on for relativly cheap to get the smoothest experience possible.

That build looks incredible ive heard great things about the 580 just one thing though.... i have cats. I dont think my pc will survive without a case, any way you can tune that down by £25 and stick a cheap case in? I dont mind spending more money later on upgrades i just want a pc asap

Thanksss

Sadly no good way of making it cheaper without paying in terms of performance. See if you can get a used case for about 10£

Depending on whether i can get my old pc components (case etc) i can use that for the case, however ive been looking at graphics cards in that price range and dont see much of a difference in performance between a 580 and a 570, of course the 580 will fare better over time but ill end up buying another one when that comes around.

Do you think its worth getting a 580 when the 570 seems to perform only a few frames weaker at 1080p ultra on most games, as ill be playing 900p ultra and i wont notice the difference?
