TL;DR at the bottom.

So after work yesterday I made the 80 Mile drive to the closest micro center and bought everything

Ryzen 5 2400g APU

MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC Motherboard

G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 3000MHz 2x8gb

Inland Professional 128Gb M.2 NVME SSD

Coolermaster Semi-Modular 650w PSU

Thermaltake View 31 RGB

Also a 16Gb USB 3.0 flash stick (5 bucks? Way to go Microcenter!) and a magnetic parts tray which saved my bacon.

Got home right around 10 p.m. and proceeded to assemble everything on the Mobo Box as per the usual LTT YouTube video "test bench" suggestion.

Started with the APU Triangle to Triangle, dropped in no problem, then removing the brackets and then almost fudging up the fan install but I did it. APU in, Wraith Stealth on top good, fan cable to the CPU fan header. "Awesome, watching dozens of build videos has taught me something after all"

Now for the Obscenely expensive 16Gb DDR4 kit, whoops wrong way, quick flip around and snap, snap, second stick, it's the correct way snap, snap. I put them in the right DIMM slots too, how about that. Then to unscrew the M.2 shield and pop in the NVME, push it down and apply the screw. "Man this P.C. building thing is easier than I thought"

Ok let's do a quick check here APU in, Fan on and plugged in, RAM inserted and locked, NVME Screwed down. Ok now for the PSU, 24 pin goes here, 2x4 goes here. Alrighty now just to jump the pins annnnnnnd. Nothing. Nada. Flip the PSU switch and try again. Bubkes. Do it again? Zip.

So at this point having let my overconfidence get the best of my I called my buddy who has done a bunch of successful P.C. builds. Did you check the cord from the PSU to the wall? Yep it's good. Did you try flipping the switch on the PSU? Yes.

And it went on for and hour and by then I had tested the PSU on an old Core 2 Duo Lenovo computer I had and it powered on. So we started to think dead MoBo, but he had to go and I was now checking the manual. My overconfidence had beaten me the whole time.

I WAS TRYING TO JUMP A USB 2.0 HEADER THE ENTIRE TIME! One massive face palm later, and a quick jump of the ACTUAL Front panel connector. RGB goodness, the board she lives! So now the question, will it post? Splash Screen, Del mash and I'm into the UEFI. Okay awesome now to pull it all apart and stuff it in the case.

PSU First, ran the cables, and in classic Linus fashion dropped the Loaded MoBo when I went to put it in the case *face palm* but got it screwed in, ran my cables, managed them as well as I could and plugged it in. POST! I didn't break anything! Plugged in my Windows 10 USB and installed. It's up and running.

I had to dive into UEFI and assign my iGPU 2Gb of RAM and apply the XMP on my Ram and I'm up and running.

I Has PC and am no longer Console Peasant.

I will add pictures tonight when I get home.

TL;DR: Bought and Built a Ryzen APU and freaked out when it wouldn't boot, then realized I was trying to turn it on from a USB 2.0 header. Everything works now.

Congratulations on your build! 10PM build? How long did it take you in the end? You must've been shattered by the end of the night. :D

Damn, sorry to hear! The moment you have everything installed and have all the parts working is the best part to a custom PC, keep at it! :)

... And then get some sleep. ;)
