So my friend is looking into buying a $1,000 PC. I have made a PC for him, but I want your guy's feed back. He said he doesn't need monitors or peripherals. He doesn't want an SSD either. He is REALLY set on 16gb of RAM,  no matter how much I try to convince him otherwise.

Motherboard:  MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Memory:  PNY XLR8 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($127.58 @ Amazon)

What will your friend be doing?

"M. Aronnax." replied the Canadian, "your arguments are rotten at the foundation. You speak in the future, 'We shall be there! we shall be here!' I speak in the present, 'We are here, and we must profit by it.'"

He wants to PC for youtube. So, gaming/rendering.

If he's going to render alot 16GB are good. Perhaps an 8350 would make more sense than a 4670k, if he renders very frequently.

Even better would be of course a 4770k, but that's 300$~.

CPU: i7-4770k (LM modded) - MB: GA-Z87X-UD3H - RAM: HyperX, 16GB 1866MHz - GPU: Palit GTX 980Ti Super - Storage: 1TB HDD + 500GB/120GB SSD (850 Evo/840) - Monitor: Predator XB271HU - PSU: 700W BeQuiet 80+ Gold

He is rendering using Sony Vegas. And in my experience, you don't need a lot of RAM for that.

Just for the sake of him wanting to have the ridiculous 16GB of RAM, you can take the SSD out.

Big Mac:

CPU: AMD FX 6300. GPU: MSI GT 640. Case: Azza Atlas Gaming Case.Storage: Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200RPM. Memory: 8GB 1600Mhz 2x4. OS: Windows 8.1

Cobra (WIP) :

CPU: Intel Core i7 4930k. CPU Cooler: Corsair H110 GPU: Asus OC GTX 780Ti. Motherboard: ASRock Extreme6 Case: Phanteks Enthoo Primo. PSU: Corsair AX 860i Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD w/ Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB 7200RPM. Memory: AMD 8x2 16GB 1866Mhz. OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

I'm guessing that since OP didn't include the OS in his build, it's not necessary to include one.

I have made two builds both with a ssd. The first is with the 8350, 8gb ram, and an arc midi r2 case. $50 over 1000

The second has a 8320, the 16gbs of ram, A cheaper nzxt source 210. Only $23 over 1000 but can go below if you get a cheaper psu.
