[MacOS X] Will USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter charge laptop?

Hi guys!

 

I want to buy Dell U2718Q 27'' monitor for my Macbook Pro to office. It has USB 3.0.

 

Will the adapter cable USB 3.1 USB-C to USB 3.0 charge laptop like normal USB-C to USB-C cable?

No. Those USB 3 ports will require you to plug in a USB 3 cable to your laptop, and a USB 3 B into the monitor; it is just USB passthrough.

 

And no, USB A/B can only output (or input for B) 5V, whereas USB C can output either 5V or 20V (Which is what your laptop will charge off 20V), so also no.
