Hello,

So I've been looking to upgrade my PC with an SSD as I currently only own a 7200rpm HDD + 16gb Intel Optane Memory(my pc was prebuilt, this was compulsory to get), and I'm looking to replace the Intel Optane Memory with a SSD I'm a little confused since when I search up SSDs, I see M.2 SSDs, PCIe SSDs, and NVMe SSDs whereas the Dell website says that the Intel Optane Memory uses the interface of "PCIe NVMe 3.0 x2" and a connector of M.2". Does anyone know which type of SSD would work when I replace the Optane Memory with it? The specs from the website are below.

I think any M.2 NVMe SSD should be compatible

Take a look at your motherboard description or manual..afaik optane interface should only work with optane module..so you can't just buy m.2 ssd and put it in there i think..

M.2 Is only the name of the slot..There can be m.2 sata ssd which only has the speed of sata and nvme ssd which utilize the pcie x4 bandwidth make it much more faster especially when copying a large files 2GB+ per files

There nvme which use pcie slot and m.2 slot...

Dont replace the optane just leave it in there it can improve the speed of your sata drive....buy a regular sata ssd its more than enough for your needs.

Behold the power of Chuck Norris the forbidden one.

So I cannot remove Optane Memory thatis using nvme pcie slot and put in a nvme pcie ssd? i dont think optane has a special port to put in, their website says it should be plugged into nvme pcie slot. Either way, which SSD would you reccomend?

You can but why would you?

You don't need to uninstall the optane module just leave it in there as i said it will help you speed your HDD.

Just buy a regular SATA SSD that use SATA SLOT not M.2 SLOT...i'd recommend getting the samsung 860 evo, adata xpg or kingston hyperx savage..

Is the high speed of the nvme pcie ssd too overkill?
