Pathway for building a entry level gaming PC

Can someone help me what pathway should i go if i wanna upgrade my pc? im currently using a core 2 quad q8300 and 4gb ram with gt 630. I wanna play some new games because my friend will give me a gtx 1060. What pathway should I aim for i3 3rd gen or i5 2nd gen? Im limited in my budget

a 2nd gen i5 will be better. what's your country and budget? full current specs?

Don't but old stuff.  Its not a good value.  Get an i3 8100 or Ryzen 3 1200 with a mid range ASRock Pro4 mobo.  Heck, try this:

That processor is only $80 at microcenter, and they will give you $30 off of a motherboard with purchase.

 

This would drastically outperform a 2nd gen i5, and the memory speed difference isn't even comparable.  

 

If you were to pursue a prebuilt, you would have to factor in the cost of a new powers supply for the 1060, and potentially a new motherboard for the power supply (dell OptiPlex).  I understand the sentiment (my first build was with used parts too) but times have changed, and trust me, its a MUCH better value to go with new stuff these days.  Not to mention its new and unused.
