thermal paste

aaronsbuild

So i recently bought all the parts for my first build and upon installing (after i put the thermal paste) i realized that my CPU fan is unable to be installed, if i just leave the thermal paste will it go bad? what should i do? can i just get a. new fan and put some new thermal over the old and be okay?

If you're talking about leaving it for more than a few hours, I'd say definitely re-do the thermal paste.

how do i remove thermal paste?

Wipe it up with paper towel or MF towel with isopropyl alcohol on it to clean off the cpu, and that's about it.

Put a small amount of at least 91% isopropyl alcohol on a microfiber cloth or a similar cloth that will not leave any fibers on the CPU, and gently wipe it off the chip, being careful not to smear it on the motherboard or any other parts.

you have to buy it. You're thinking of hydrogen peroxide.

Some rubbing alcohols are ethanol based. Check the active ingredient or post a photo of the exact bottle you're looking at with quality good enough we can read it.

how come you cant install the fan?

what cpu cooler are you using?

leaving the paste over night will not cause an issue as long as the  cpu cooler is mounted on correctly there will be no issue and a waste of thermal paste.

Cryorig R1 ultimate is the cpu cooler, the screw driver can not clear the cooler (non removable part) so i can’t screw it in. i was able to screw it in a tiny bit with Pliers but not enough.

Some pastes are fine with being left untouched. You can always replace it later if temps are high.

Isopropyl alcohol isn't necessary for cleaning it off but it helps if it's particularly caked on.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/
