Used i7 Budget Gaming PC, [BUILD LOG] [COMPLETE]

Hello Everybody, thanks for reading!

So I have been wanting to build another PC again lately. I've built an absolute ton for other people and probably like 9-10 for myself, keep selling them as I don't have time for them or something else comes up. I knew I didn't want to dump a crazy about of cash into it but I wanted something to build that would take some time and look good.

I was originally going to go with something like a R3-1200g and just keep the budget low for new parts, but I wanted a better bang for my back. One thing to keep in mind is I already had 4x240gb SSD's that I will be using in RAID 0 for main storage and OS. I began looking at the used market. Stumbled across this:

Spoiler

Specs:

Core I7-4770k

RAM: 16 GBs Corsair Vengence 1600 Mhz ddr3

Storage: 1tb HDD + 500 GB Samsung 850 evo

GPU: EVGA 970 4gb(3.5 gb looool)

Mobo: ASrock Fatality z97 killer

PSU: Corsair Hx650w Semi Modular

Case: Antec something or other

Included a 24" BenQ 60Hz TN panel display, a Razer DeathAdder Chroma, and a hp generic keyboard.

He had it posted for $700

I took it home for $400 cash and picked up without an OS and let him keep his storage drives.

I took that build home,

1st Step was to get it out of the Antec case, between the dust build up and just the general meh of the older style case I wanted something nicer, removed all the components and swapped it over the a Corsair Carbide 275r Tempered glass(white), threw in my SSD's and a hyper 212 evo that I already had on hand. You'll notice 2 out of my 4 SSD's are not plugged in at all, I setup the first two(mounted in the back in RAID 0 and I have not plugged in the other 2 yet(lazy-ness?)

Up next was the desk setup. I needed a desk as I did not have one anymore(gave it away at some point)

I ordered this L-Shaped Tempered glass desk, it was cheap, and fit in the space that I needed(I had about 52 inches to work with and wanted tempered glass+L-shape.

I also picked up a Corsair Void Pro wireless headset, currently my favorite headset and is pretty cheap too, with a Clamp style headset holder to put on the desk.

Up next was to focus a little more on the cosmetic side of things for the tower(On a budget :D )

  • Ordered some Cheap RGB Light strips, controlled by a RF Remote. (They will probs always be set to white, but wanted to be able to change it up.)
  • Ordered a EVGA Powerlink for my GTX 970, however the 970 is a 6x6 power input setup and the power link is only setup for 8x8 or 8x6 out of the box, so I had to order an additional 6pin adaptor, once I got that it worked great.
  • Ordered some CHEAP White Braided Cables for the power supply. Turned out to be pretty good quality.
  • Threw in an ASUS WIFI+BT Card with an external antennae. Idk why but I wanted the external xD           SPEEDS IN SPOILER:

Here are some pictures of the completed PC setup:

All in I think I spent 500-600 bucks, not including the desk.

All assembled it looks great and runs pretty much anything I've attempted to throw at it. Very happy with this build.

What are your thoughts?

========== UPDATE ===================

Hey guys! Quick update as some things have changed.

I got a h60 liquid cooler for black friday(30 buckaroonies) and some cable brackets for extra freshness.

I also got a killer deal on a MSI 1070 Gaming X, I traded someone my 970+$100 because they were in a bind.

Just now, Firewrath9 said:

nice!, especially for 400$. I would recommend getting a better cooler so you can overclock to 4.5 and above.

Yeah! I have been thinking about going liquid(Either AIO or custom just cause)

I had the hyper 212 already on hand so I threw it in there, I cannot stand stock intel coolers(load and ugly lol)

Thanks man!
