Hey, I'm planning to build a new system in early september. Currently I'm leaning towards a 2700x with a x470 mb.

The choice of ram leaves me a bit puzzled. I wanted to use 2x 8gb single 3600mhz. I've seen a vid from der8auer, that you can achieve 3733 mhz with 2 single sticks and only 3333mhz with 4 single.

Is that true? Is the chipset or the 2700x the limiting factor? Does that mean I cannot run my ram at 3600mhz anymore, if I decide to upgrade to 32gb?

thx

You can likely achieve 3333MHz on most Ryzen 7 2700X CPUs, any more than that is very dependand on what kind of motherboard you have and the quality of the IMC on the CPU.

And even if you can push above 3333MHz, you may need to sacrifice timings in which case the performance will go down and not up.

Anyway... for best results possible, get a Samsung B-Die and get a Single RANK kit... dont get Dual RANK as that will limit your max RAM OC a lot.

IMO, you should just stick to 3200MHz-3400MHz at most and then try to get timings as low as possible while being stable with no RAM errors.

And yes, you are more likely to get better results with two RAM sticks rather than four.

ok cool. I like the Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4-3200 CL16 in white. They are listed as b-die. It's seems strange that they are only cl16 though. I can surely tighten the timings a bit, can't I?

I think the rgb looks better than the trident z. Also white is sexy
