Gaming GPU Needed

oferk99

I want to buy monitor (with Freesync/Gsync), but I don't know what company I should stick with...

My current GPU & CPU is *R5 2400g, I also have 60hz monitor which is crap for gamers.

You will be surprised but I actually getting 120fps in Overwatch (low settings, 50% render resolution) that's why I want to buy a +120hz Monitor now.

so I want to buy ultrawide monitor with 120hz or more.

So this is my concerns:

  • The monitor should serve me for at least 5 years, that mean I will be stuck with the same company for 5 years or more.
  • Nvidia are #1 in performance right now, but as a company I don't really like them:
    - GPP (even if it's already dead).
    - Gameworks (shit application that make games run worse on both platforms but it hit AMD harder than Nvidia).
    - Pricing (GTX 1080Ti die size is a little bit smaller than Vega 64 die size, not only that but Vega 64 has HBM2 and it also 200$ cheaper, now imagine that Vega had similar architecture to Pascal, AMD could've crash Pascal in pricing and performance).
  • Intel will join the GPU market (hopefully with gaming GPU):
    - Gsync - Nvidia.
    - Freesync - Intel, AMD.
basically if i'm buying Gsync I will be stuck with Nvidia even if AMD or Intel has better prices.
  • If AMD don't drop below GTX 70 performance than i'm ok with AMD.

*The reason I have 2400g is to wait until new GPUs will come and my previous computer was 100% garbage so I couldn't wait...

I have the money for high end GPU (even for Titan Xppppppppppppp or even Volta, but it has absolutely terrible price to performance ratio that I just ignore it existence).

I would have to say AMD makes the most sense. Freesync>GSync. Freesync monitors are cheaper and do the same thing making a potential switch much more easy.

Freesync is a lot cheaper so why not I guess. Plus you can use it with your 2400g for now.

1. You won't be stuck, that's you being closed to the idea of changing monitors.

2. GPP is dead and Gameworks isn't as bad as you think. Considering the performance you get from a 1080 Ti vs a Vega 64, we both know where this goes.

3. Where did you hear this from? And where have you seen Intel will support FreeSync?

4. RX 570 and 580 are on par with the 1070.

Um, no they're not. They're on par with a 1060. A 1070 is a solid 25-40% faster than 1060/580, which are also a bit faster than a 570

Just get like an RX 570/580 for the free-sync savings.

Forget 1440p ultra wide though, go for 4k, more pixels for the money.

Or just get a more basic 1080p 144hz display that's around $200

1. Good Ultrawide monitor cost around $500 min, I don't want to buy another one with Freesync or Gsync (even worse, those start at $700) sometime soon.

2. Just watch this videos:

even though they remove GPP it still show us how bad they are, the fact that they did it in the first place is just terrible.

It mean I should expect more dicks move in the future.

3. I remembered that I heard that in the past, not sure from where...

but either way it will make tons of sense if they do it, they can make it much more appealing to Freesync owners to buy Intel GPU and it will help them in the big battle against Nvidia that even AMD struggling with.

4. no, maybe Vega 56 or 64.

That kind of what I feel, but what if GTX 1180/1170 will be release in September and It will blew up out of the water every old generation card?

I will be stuck with freesync :/

But if I don't buy these technologies (Gsync/FreeSync) it will be bad non the less, because they are amazing and I will miss the +120hz experience...

G-sync is never worth the money anyways.

At higher refresh rates screen tearing is less noticeable in general.

Can just use fast-sync/enhanced-sync otherwise.

I want high end ultrawide like those (freesync/gsync):

I don't really look at 4k, they are just terrible for gaming because you need high end GPU and they still struggle to keep up.

I still open to 1440p, but they are around 100hz max so it's not that amazing, plus I will need higher end GPU.

3840x1440p at 100hz is probably close to 4k in terms of performance requirements.

But you can just run games in a 21:9 window on a 4k display. Or just upscale from 1080p and it looks fine.

Get a giant one, you'll never have to replace it.

Otherwise level 1 techs has a ton of reviews for cheaper korean monitors

Usually the XX70 card is about on par with the previous generation XX80 ti, with the XX80 being around 20% faster than that. I doubt it'll truly blow it out of the water, though it'll be a sizeable performance jump for sure.

That being said, if its Volta like what some rumors are pointing to, I doubt the performance jump will be that big. 12nm TSMC isn't a big improvement over 16nm TSMC both performance wise and die size wise, and it looks like Volta isn't a huge improvement for gaming performance either. If it is Volta and not Turing or something that could be 10nm based, then the difference might not be that big.

I don't think they make better 35 inch panels than the one on the Asus monitor. If you want higher refresh rate, i would go with the LG monitor. The LG monitor also has the added benefit of better coloring, as it is an IPS panel. To me, the transition from a TN panel to an IPS panel yielded the best perceived improvement out of all my upgrades over the years. Though i realize this is anecdotal and highly subjective.

Edit: It seems someone sells a 3440x1440 120HZ G-sync ultra wide albeit a 34 inch one, and it does cost a thousand dollars.
