jerry rig gta splitscreen?

So this may be a stupid question but I want to play GTA V whit my siblings but I saw that it does not support split screen gaming so I asked myself the question would I be able to just buy 2 copies of GTA then kind of put one computer on the tv and the other one via my steam link on to the tv but it like splits the 2 screens so the game thinks its a widescreen monitor or could this be achieved with virtual machines? (and with the virtual machines how would I do that I never made a virtual machine (i am on windows 10 home)

So VM machines are like having multiple computers running from the same parts. You will need some pretty powerful hardware, where you can split the cores between the two VMs and RAMs. Your probably going to want a threadripper or lower end core i9 processor. You might be able to pull it off with like a i7-8700k however your still going to want a vast amount of RAM, and 2 dedicated GPUs for separate outputs.

This won't work because GTA V doesn't respond to inputs if it's not the active window (as far as I know anyway).

VMs act like two separate machines, each with there own inputs, its like running 2 computers at once, so technically both windows are "active". He would just need to make sure that the 2 sets of keyboards and mouse are allocated to different VMs.

If you're running this with Windows as the host OS, then it won't work because the VM won't respond to inputs unless it's the active window. You need a so-called bare metal hypervisor if you want to do this approach.

Yeah no, defiantly not nearly enough power to accomplish something like that.

Trying to do the 7-gamers-1-CPU approach for this is impractical because:

  • This was a bare metal hypervisor. Which I think they were using unRaid for that (which surprisingly is cheap)
  • You would need a storage device for each VM, plus unRaid itself
  • You would need a video card for each VM, plus unRaid itself
  • Technically a con, but you would need a Windows key for each VM (though if it's tied to the motherboard, wouldn't this not be the case?)
  • You need a copy of the game for each VM because Steam sharing limits you to launching one user per game.

ok now how about the other thing splitting the screen in two is that possible? I have an LG tv that is 720 p would it b possible because now i know that VMS would not be possible only if your bare metal supervisor works with my setup

why not just play it on two computers with two screens next to eachother , this is a solveable issue right out of the box with the game.

ok then put two computers next to each other and sit on the couch

the split screen thing on a 720p tv isn't happening , not only will it look terrible but it would be far more difficult than just using two computers.

you can sit on a couch with a controller and tv plugged into the computer. I'm always baffeld at people who think tv doesn't = computer.

If just simply setting a monitor next to your tv is a chore , then i can't even imagine trying to help you set up a video mixer to allow more than one input on a screen. let alone trying to set up any machine that can run two instances of gta 5 , run them side by side at the same time at the correct resolution for the mixer to work.

that's not the problem it is not that i have an infinite budget or place like my tv barely fits in there so first i need to find or a tv i have or go out and by a new one, mount it to my wall, do the setup (mind you the tv is under a sloped ceiling) so or its going on the side wall or i need to find a way to mount it up there and all that just to play GTA with my sister (which will be two different instances of a game) is just not the effort I want to go through if that thing you have to use 1 tv as 2 is free and it does what i want it to do  I could use it but otherwise i will just take turns with her

you're under the impression that buying a 5$ monitor at goodwill is harder than buying a 2000$ computer than can run two instances of gta via emulator is somehow the more expensive solution?

I literally gave you the cheapest easiest solution.

your idea of converting a tv that doesn't display two inputs at once via some unknown method will somehow be free is never going to happen.

in your senario , you need a machine that can mix those signals (not free) or a machine that can play two instances of the game (not free) or an engineer to invent you a tv that displays two 8:9 signals instead of one 16:9 signal.

or you can get a junk monitor for cheap and be playing by the end of the day. but hey maybe thats too difficult.
