Hi, so I decided to run HWMonitor on my laptop just out of pure curiousity for my laptop and how it runs stuff such as my CPU and the temperatures. I happened to notice this battery dropdown and it's an eyebrow-raiser. I noticed my battery capacity according to HWMonitor is just shy of 28000mWh when the full designed capacity is 38000mWh, it's scary to look at. :( In addition to this, I also noticed this 'Wear level' thing that puts my battery capacity loss into a percentage, way to kick me when I'm down, HWMonitor...

I've had this laptop since 2016 so two years now and it's been used as a daily ever since for general internet usage and light gaming such as Garry's Mod and Counter-Strike: Source. Is this life expectancy normal for this laptop? It's an Asus X205TA sporting an Intel Atom Z3735F, 2GB of DDR3-1333 memory, 1366x768 screen, and a 38000mWh-advertised battery when I first bought it. When I first got this thing, it used to last me a good 12 hours of screen-on time per charge, but nowadays it lasts as much as 7-8. :(

just normal wear for a battery

all batteries wear down with time and usage (charging and drainign)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

either way it was going to wear down, so at least you used it :P

you could probably get a repalcement part from asus, or if not, you have ebay for third party options.. don't expect it to be as good as OEM though in lifespan

Thing is I bought this laptop on refurb so it's probably not under warranty anymore, so I would look into sourcing a new battery myself if need be. If I can at least replace this battery to something like a 35000mWh+ battery, that would be nice. :P

buy a replacement part from asus is what I was suggesting

it still got some life in it, you don't have to replace it now

Yeah, I suppose. I guess I miss the times when I had 12-hour battery on a single charge that much, the greatest part about this laptop was its battery life.

I've had this laptop since 2016

depending on how hard you stomp the battery and the quality the manufacturer went for, that's still fairly acceptable.

as long as the battery life isnt actually impacting your usage of the device dont bother buying a new pack. if you decide on buying a new pack, buy something offiical or be very careful with buying an aftermarket pack.

the aftermarket pack i got for my laptop turned out to have some really wonky branding (long story), has terrible cell balancing circuitry, and goes in overcurrent protection if i put my laptop under full load. i'd buy an official pack for it but they're stupidly hard to find in my case, and my laptop being 8 years old impacts choices as well :P

Yeah, I actually don't think I'll be trying to extend this laptop's life any further than when the battery goes kaput because it's a super-slow Atom Z3735F CPU. But if I do, it's probably going to be tough since to my knowledge, the X205TA is actually discontinued. :(

HP has some stuff for your market.

also, because my main laptop was starting to fall apart, i got one of these on sale and am quite satisfied:

I'm not a fan of 2-in-1 laptops/tablets, it seems clunky to have a keyboard randomly when you want to go tablet mode, but I digress. Admittedly, I am looking for future considerations for a new laptop, so if HP has stuff that prioritises battery life over most other things, sign me up! :)

HP has an entire range of netbooks in the <$300 range, in pretty much every variant you can think, and the easiest way to make batteries last is to put no hardware in it :P

Great! Thanks for the recommendation, I'm alien to HP but I can probably warm up to using a product of theirs. :D
