I have a GTX970 and DDR3 8gb 1600mhz RAM sticks gathering dust, so I decided to built a budget gaming rig for fun using older server hardware. After scouting Ebay for a long time I settled with this motherboard and CPU and I would like to hear your opinions on it. Like is the CPU fast enough so it won't bottleneck the GTX970? And are they compatible with the GTX970 and the RAM?

Thatas not a normal atx board, it won't jun work in most cases due to the ports. I have one.

Cpu is fine, but id go 6 core. Get 2 of them here, you got a dual socet board.

Your running some pretty old cpus now, so don't expect them to the the fastest around

That board can't be powered by a normal PSU, you need the HP PSUs with it. It also won't fit a standard case.

Just grab a supermicro EATX board and an EATX case or whatever.

So this motherboard including 2x X5660 6-core CPU's popped up.

I think it would be great for a build like this, but I'm not sure about the pricing?

It's reasonably cheap. A typical 1366 board sets you back $100-200 these days. I'd say go for it.

Problem is no 16x slots for gpu and its a 1u designed board.

You will probably need a usb pcie card and a sound card aswell.

Id get one with 16x slots like this one  https://www.ebay.com/itm/SuperMicro-X8DT3-LN4F-Server-Motherboard-I-O-IPMI-Extended-ATX-Dual-LGA1366/262865120662?epid=74049504&hash=item3d33fb6d96%3Ag%3AVdQAAOSwl7NazPwm%3Asc%3AUSPSPriority!95014!US!-1&_sacat=0&_nkw=dual+lga+1366&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1312.R1.TR0.TRC0.A0.H0.Xdual+lga+1366.TRS5.TSS1

also what type of ram do you have? These won't take all types of ddr3.
