Budget "gaming" PC

Hey all

I'm currently trying to put together a budget PC for my wife with the intention of upgrading parts like the CPU & GPU down the line.

Does this look reasonable so far? I'm mainly looking for recommendations on where I can save a bit more or where to invest more for higher value.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 3 1200

Mob - MSI B350 PC Mate

PSU - Corsair RX550M

GPU - Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti

Ram - 2x4gb DDR4 2133

In my country the GTX 1050 Ti goes for 100$ less than a GTX 1060 3gb so I'd rather save that one up a bit.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: PSU - Corsair RM550X, I'm a dummy.

No idea how the prices are in your country, but I would recommend getting a Ryzen 2200g instead. It's more powerful and (at least in the US) cheaper than the Ryzen 1200. It also has integrated graphics which aren't the best, but since you are upgrading later on, you might be able to last until the next Nvidia cards are released.

Instead of buying the Ryzen 3 1200, grab the 2200G instead. Costs the same and comes with built in graphics.
Get faster memory as well. Try and get a 3000mhz kit. It will only cost a few dollars more than the 2133MHz kit, but your CPU will benefit from it.

Edit: Do you already have a case and storage device? You should grab a 250GB/500GB SSD to put in it as well for the OS.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

Thank you two for the quick response!

The ryzen 2200G costs 3$ more, so no biggie. However, wouldn't I have to update the BIOS of my Mob beforehand?

All parts will be ordered online.

I already have a (Sandisc) 120gb SSD and a WD Blue 1tb and thought about getting the Phanteks Eclipse P300 Case since it seemed pretty good.

Is that the CX550M or RM550x?

I think be means CX550M...

There's no difference between the 1300X and 1200.

RM550X, I heard the CX550M wasn't very reliable? it would cost a good bit less though!

The Corsair CX450 might be a bit cheaper, and your PC won't use more than around 200 watts.

If you do decide to get this one, though, make sure you get the new Gray Label model, because I remember there being some issues with the older Green Labels.

Next-gen Nvidia cards are about one month away so I suggest you go for a 2200g or 2400g and then buy a used 1060 as i have a feeling the used market is going to see a pretty decent price drop on 10 series cards as many gamers will want to upgrade and there should be a lot of used cards on the market soon.

the 2400g is similar is GPU performance to a GTX 1050 (non ti variant)

Ok, I stand corrected it is likely not at 1050 levels, but i still feel that the 2400g could serve as a good stop gap measure

im speaking of GPU performance of the APU.  OP had a Ryzen 1200 listed and 1050ti, so I dont think the 8400 is even in the price range

The old CX series wasn't very good. This new CX (identified by a grey label on the PSU vs the green one the old ones had) is a really nice line of PSUs.

That thing sucks. It'll be performing similarly to a 730, not a 1030.

Speaking of all this, you seem to know nothing about a bunch of stuff you talk about. Take a break from the forums for a day and go do some research. Just a suggestion.

Im not saying the igpu is better on the 8400, just that when he gets a gpu, it’ll perform better on the 8400 than on the 2400g
