if i wanted to make my own custom loop, can i take the rad from my AIO and use that? i have a evga CLC 280, ik corsair is better but i got this on sale.

i would not

you're better of selling it and get a radiator that supports standard G 1/4" thread for maximum compatibility and expandability

or you could get a AIO from EK and expand that.

Specs: Ryzen 9800X3D 5425MHz - ASUS TUF RTX 4080 super - G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 64GB 6400MT/s CL26 -  Gigabyte X870 AORUS Elite Wifi7 ICE - Torrent Fractal Design white - EVGA 850W Supernova G2 80+ Gold - Noctua NH-U12A

I would be very wary of doing this as most AIO rads are aluminium and most custom loop fittings are nickel and copper. You will get galvanic corrosion and it will ruin custom blocks.

That rad is aluminum pretty sure and doesn't have standard open loop threading as stated above.  It really wouldn't make sense.

I agree, also having expanded an expandable AIO before i can say it works for a year or so but even with frequent fluid change the aluminum takes away some nickel plating on the cpu block and or GPU one, if the pump doesn't die first. This was only possible on an "expandable" AIO for me.

I would recommend OP to look for an AIO for his GPU or when upgrading find a Hybrid/AIO equipped GPU if the CPU AIO is still going strong.

Aio use aluminum rads and funny fitting sizes,What it cost in adapters to use the rad you could have bought a copper rad same size or bigger.

Most times it does not make sense. Sometimes it is possible without much hassle. Sell it and buy a new rad will be the better way.

thanks for your input! im not planning on doing a custom loop anytime soon.
