Hi!

I own a notebook asus X550LD on which I can change my GPU which is a GeForce 820M 1gb coupled to an i5-4210U.
I would like to change this GPU to another (8xxM Series mandatory if I understood correctly) to have better in-game performance (Because with an 820M it starts to get complicated to play, I hold a minimum of 30fps on some games barely.)

If you can replace it you'd have to find a compatible MxM card on eBay.

Getting them any other way will be hard.

After that you'd need a custom BIOS.

Keep in mind MxM cards aren't cheap, hell a new laptop would be cheaper.

See where I'm going with this?

Unless you REALLY cling onto that machine the cost will be too high, buying the card on eBay might also result in you getting a non-functional card which would throw a wrench in the whole plan.

Yes you can, if you have enough $$$, spare time and know a guy that knows a guy that knows a chick that knows a lad that can create a custom BIOS for you.

it is not possible, gpu is soldered on a pcb

Dude @wojtepanik did you bother to Google he's model of laptop?

Nothing personal but if you don't know what you are talking about, just .. don't it causes spreading of misinformation.

Yes most laptop GPU's are soldered, but some aren't (but as I said that doesn't help upgrading them)

When the PC is acting up haunted,

who ya gonna call?

ow, meh

The custom bios is mandatory? If so, I feel bone at all put another bios than the basic one. And like you said I don't especially want to get a GPU that won't work or the wrong one... :/

It probably is, I'd advise scouring through older forum posts or googling other peoples experiences.

Maybe it isn't, but chances that is is are pretty big.

Keep in mind if it isn't the MXM card is still expensive.

Custom BIOS'es are free by the way, it isn't a cost but hard to find/make/get made
