Hello guys.

I really need your help. So For the past month I have been experiencing very weird Frame Rate issues and random frame rate drops/stuttering. Basically every 5-15 seconds my frames drop and I get a stutter, which is very annoying. So I ran some tests. My GPU and CPU usage looked pretty normal, same with the temps. I tried lowering my GPU overclock, but that didn't help. So I tried disabling my CPU overclock. That too didn't help. While running a Fire Strike Extreme Stress Test, I found that, according to the charts, every 10-20 seconds or so my CPU clock speeds dropped drastically, from 4.5GHz to anywhere from 3.6GHz to 1.4GHz. This really shocked me. Why was my CPU doing this? The CPU usage, according to CAM, was in the 40%-70% region, meaning it should have stayed at it's maximum clock speed, right? When my PC is idle, I have seen my CPU do this, where it'll drop from it's normal 4.8GHz clock speed to around 2GHz. But I thought it only did that because it was idle. How can I fix this? Could this be the cause of my random frame drops in games? Please, help!

Are you using the stock cooler? Make sure it's properly seated and the CPU is not over heating. I've seen this happen a ton.

Down clocking is generally temperature related. Also an option is you might not have high enough voltage on the overclock, but it's still enough to not let it crash during benchmarks yet

I'm using an NZXT X52 cooler. My temps seem fine, but if I can't fix my problem before this weekend I'll go ahead and open it up...

Thanks you

From what I can tell my temps aren't too high. I ran a 20 minute Aida 64 stress test and for the most part my CPU temps were below 70c. I thought maybe my CPU could not be getting enough voltage, but for that FireStrike stress test, I had loaded Optimized Defaults in my BIOS. So wouldn't the optimized default voltage be enough for stock clock speeds?

The way that's worded... Did you put an oc on your cpu and left it set to auto voltage?

Sorry if I worded that horribly. No, loading Optimized Defaults in the BIOS resets everything. So there was No CPU oc, and the voltage would have been set to auto.

use intel update software, flash bios, maybe vrms are overheating or something on the board? what psu you have?

I'm not sure how to check my VRM temps. My PSU is a EVGA G3 1000watt, so should be plenty of power for my system?

should be, touch everything and check if anything on your motherboard is heating too much, vrms are around cpu socket, there is also a intel diagnostic tool, it checks everything about the cpu

Ok. And it would seem as though the Intel Diagnostic Tool download no longer exists (it leads me to an 'Error: Page Not Found' page when I click download)
