TV on top of monitor

Ergroilnin

Hello,

I am a bit curious about this. I have seen tons of setups with one or several (whatever) monitors in the normal line of sight and then bigger (sometimes like even twice of the main monitor or so) on top of that, obviously pointed somewhat down.

I mean this setup is probably not for me, since even though I do plan on buying a TV, I have a nice sofa and friends I'd like to invite over for some movie/anime/whatever watching, so most likely, my TV will be in front of the sofa.

However, I am still interested in what are exactly the uses and benefits of setups like that. Perhaps there are some things I am not considering, that would make me actually want to get another TV for it.

I'm about this life (refer to profile picture).

My main reasoning is I like to have everything I need crammed into 1 setup, when I want to actually use the TV for something other than monitoring computer temperatures / other stats I back up, recline my chair, and throw a foot rest in front of me (I also have a couch behind that when I have people over). Furthermore I much prefer having a PC hooked up to my TV as opposed to using some other smart device. Having my TV hooked up to my soundboard / studio monitors and sub is a treat I wouldn't otherwise experience unless I wanted to buy two sets of equipment. Sometimes I'll use the bottom half of the screen as basically two 32" inch 1080p monitors when sitting up close for productivity when my other monitors are full. Lastly and probably pretty unconventional, I'll throw up http://color.aurlien.net and us the TV as camera lighting when recording a video.

There are other benefits, but really just having everything concentrated in one space is pretty nice.

In my opinion I have liked a lot of the monitor on top of tv gaming setups. Ive seen people have around a 40" 4k tv to game on with a smaller around 24" monitor mounted above it so they could still control stuff such as streaming and monitor temperature and performance while playing on a 4k display.
