Please help me understand what on earth is this device and how can I use it

I found this in my garage, but what is it for?

That is a long range point-to-point antenna. They are designed for sending and receiving data at ranges of several miles at fairly high speeds (up to 150mbps). They are often used for decentralized wireless ISPs in rural areas or areas without an extensive cable/fiber infrastructure.

Ahh, can I use it as a WiFi extender? As in connect it to my router so that my 3 rd floor gets good WiFi? I only have one unit, and by the sound of what you say it seems I will need two

Hi, 

Yes you can use it as an Access Point in your home. But this product wasn't made for this kind of utilisation. The main goal of using this device is if you are a WISP or customer of a WISP, you can connect to the internet via a peer 2 peer link created with your wisp. 

If you still want to use it indoor, you can simply create an SSID, assign a WPA 2 password and connect it to your local network. 

If you don't have a power supply, and no PoE switch, you have to buy a PoE injector from Amazon or Ebay..

I do have the power brick thingy, is there a guide to use is as an access point?
