Google Fit and Multiple Watches/Trackers

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

I have used google fit with multiple watches.

I used the Sony Smartwatch 3 for workouts, as it has a built in gps so you dont need the phone.

Also the Huawei watch 1gen as a nice office watch.

The deal with it is that you first have to sync the first watch with google fit. (Just open google fit app both on phone and on watch, and wait a few secs) Then you turn off the first watch, and connect the second watch, and sync that with google fit and then you can leave your phone behind, do your exercise, then when you come back make sure to manually sync the workout with google fit before turning the watch off and replacing it with other watch.

You maybe dont even have to disconnect the first watch, but you must do the manual sync every time before you turn the second watch off after exercise to make sure that the workout makes it way to the phone. So that looks like this probably (take off your first watch, turn on the second watch [android wear supports multiple watches at the same time] then open google fit on phone and watch 2, do your exercise, open google fit on both phone and watch 2, wait until workout is visible on phone, then turn off watch 2 and put on watch 1)

If the explanation was a bit messy you can ask me, just don't forget to tag me @Some Random Member , so i can see it.

Hi Everyone,

TLDR: Does Google Fit support multiple watches?

More detail: I've been thinking about getting a smartwatch (a nicer, conventional-looking one) for day-to-day wear around the office.  I've also been looking at using one as a means to track my various workouts (running, bicycling, etc) in Google Fit without dragging my phone along.  However, the larger and heavier (not to mention expensive) "office" watch is not the type I'd want to bring with me on workouts.  As such, I've thought about getting a smaller band-style smartwatch for use specifically during workouts.  But that would require Google Fit to play nicely with multiple watches.  Is this something that Fit supports? Is it something that you do yourself? How has it been working out for you?

Thanks.

I'm assuming you have an Android phone? Because normally I would just recommend an Apple Watch Sport since it is an all in one solution.

Yes, it's an Android.  Specifically the Pixel 2.

Thanks @Some Random Member.  Manually syncing before switching watches does not seem like that big of a problem to me.  I'm just glad to know that it at least works. Also, that Sony smartwatch 3 looks interesting.  I'll have to look into it more.

And thanks to @DrMacintosh too.  I was looking at specifically metal watch faces/bands for the main watch, but you made me think that maybe I should look for something more in-between.  On cursory search I thought something like the Huawei Watch 2 Sport (http://a.co/2z3MpmP) might be good.  I'll have to look down that road a little more.

If possible just get the Huawei watch sport, it looks good and you dont need to hassle with 2 watches. There can be some bluetooth issues etc that you wont have with just 1 watch. Or you could get a watch with removable watchbands and have rubber bands for workout, and a leather/metal one for work.

The sony smartwatch is interesting yes, but it has android wear 1.0 not 2.0, doesnt get software updates, and i expect it to lose combatibility with some apps sooner or later. But it is dirt cheap. I right now just have mine as a speedometer for my bike, it is not connected to my phone, it uses the onboard gps to just show me my speed, nothing else.

Thanks for the heads up on that.  So far I'm continuing to lean towards that Huawei sport.  It will probably take me a couple days to finally hit that buy button (it's just the way I am with larger purchases :P ), but it will probably end up being the one.
