Not if you know what youre doing. CPUs and GPUs have roadmaps that go out several years. I knew id get Skylake back in 2012 when i built my Sandy Brteidge system. I knew id get Pascal when i had a Kepler GPU...

Build at the right time and you can be relatively futureproofed for years. Built my system in 2016 and its no slouch for its class: single small socket CPU, single GPU desktop. Lots of people are still using 16GB of RAM and <1TB SSDs. Dont plan on building its replacement until 2020-2021.

More value optimized while still keeping some of the theme.

GPU PSU and RAM pricing will be out of date in a month.

Swap PSU for a different seasonic FOCUS Gold and GPU for whatever 1080 is cheapest while still having multiple fans. Ram is whatever fits the build

I used the wrong word. By 'good build', I mean 'good part lists'.

Oh true that with all the parts changing price and going on and off sale. I agree. He should probs just get a rough idea like "small socket CPU, x amount of RAM, roughly what SSD and how big of a PSU" now and wait until hes about to buy to see whats on sale.
