keyboard Surface book keyboard backlight adjustment

any one have an idea as to how to adjust the timeout on the sb2 keyboard backlight? as far as i can tell, there is no software out of the box, and, i am unsure, without taking the thing apart (something i'm not willing to do to a £2000+ device), weather it is software controlled, like rgb on desktops, or fan rpm, or if it is hardware based, like a 555 timer ic?

Just googling around, looks like no third party software controllers have been made to change the backlight timer.
