Good day

Im currently in the process of planning for my new PC build, Since my last build AMD Cpu's were not something that I would look at but with ryzen, threadripper Im actually not sure whether to go with Intel or AMD for my Cpu in my MATX Build.

That why I want to ask you guys my main uses are gonna be gaming and some video editing.

AMD seems cheaper and has more cores but intel Mobo has more variety in Mobo

Please help

Thanks

seems like a 8700K would be your best bet

6cores/12threads for video editing, lots and lots of Ghz for gaming.

Just posting this. Replace 1080ti with whatever Nvidia puts out in their next lineup.

Use leftover bidget for monitors, more Ram or other perks

At the moment, mATX is quite a pain. There aren't many good boards on either side available especially if you want to oc. Ryzen is particularly bad concerning VRM layouts. And even though SLI is not ideal for gaming these days it can be a good option for content creation - sadly most mATX boards don't support SLI. Most Ryzen boards are still B350, barely any X370 boards and so far no available boards on the latest X470 or B450 chips.

Concerning VRM designs, there are some good options for Z370 boards. Best one probably: EVGA Z370 Micro (8+3 afaik, unfortunately only 2 DIMM slots). There are other good ones though with 4+2 layouts.

Weirdly enough: there are more high end mITX boards with beefy VRM layouts than mATX ones.

Then there's the issue with the imminent update of Intel's mainstream lineup and the upcoming Z390 Chipsets. I wouldn't invest in Intel right now if I didn't have to.

Im still in the planning phase so I didnt buy anything yet, maybe wait for more x470 or z390.

Just one question why not the intel Extremes ?

Just one question why not the intel Extremes ?

Because as of now the 7800X is slower than a 8700k while not offering any benefits since you won't get the extra PCIe lanes. The 7820X is often also outperformed by the 8700k despite some specific scenarios that benefit from the extra cores. Gaming performance is significantly worse. There are also only a few boards though they are pretty good. With the imminent release of 8 core i9 on mainstream platform based on Coffee Lake architecture, everything below a 7900X makes no sense and wastes money (bluntly spoken).

For Ryzen there will be more boards available with more current chipsets. Since Ryzen is limited by its architecture regarding overclocking a beefy VRM layout is not as important though still very much appreciated desirable for stability reasons and thermals. Funny enough, the mITX lineup comes with some boards around that offer superior VRM layouts compared to basically every mATX AM4 board available.

Since you don't need to buy right now it makes more sense to wait 1-2 months. It's not like any of those CPUs would be a bad choice from a performance point of view, either a Ryzen 7 2700X, the core i7 8700k or the i7 7820X will do a great job. It's just that changes are imminent and the same money will get you a more recent option with better performance. Sure, there's always coming something new to the market but this time it's not just a slight bump as for example the 6700k to 7700k was.
