Mixing SDRAM and DRAM Memory

ArchGamer
Go to solution Solved by Sakkura,

DDR4 is a specific type of SDRAM. And SDRAM is a type of DRAM. So you don't need to worry about whether it says SDRAM or DRAM, as long as it's DDR4.

Hi,

I currently have 4GB of DDR4 SDRAM installed on my machine and have been looking to upgrade the amount of memory it has, is it possible to mix DDR4 SDRAM with DDR4 DRAM on an Intel Cofee Lake Platform?

My Machine Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i3-8100

GPU:Gigabyte GTX 1060 Mini 3GB

MB: Gigabyte B360M DS3H

PSU: CM MasterWatt Lite 500

Case: Rosewill SRM-01

Ram: G.Skill Aegis 4GB SDRAM

The only thing to keep in mind, is that if you're mixing RAM, your BIOS will automatically underclock all RAM to the speed of the slowest stick.

I'm looking to upgrade but at the moment, I'm running 12GB DDR3: 1x4GB 2400MHz, and 1x8GB 1600MHz. So both run at only 1600MHz. Not ideal. Just something to keep in mind :)
