I’m gonna cut to the chase here, internet makes no sense. I have ran multiple tests for networks which have came up short. I have moved my entire setup multiple times just to plug in an ethernet cord which also doesn’t work. I have sat staring at that little dinosaur jump over freaking cacti all day. I just moved my setup to my place after it has been in storage for a while. I used to use a netgear router but unfortunately lost it (trust me I have no idea how). I want the simplest solution, AKA the one that doesn’t  require me to go to BestBuy and waste 300 dollars on a new router. I’m writing this   thread as a plead for help, not as an invitation to goof off in the replies. I’m not trying to come off rude, (cleche I know) but HELP ME NOW.??

Whos your ISP? What modem/router do you have? Have you reinstalled your network card drivers?

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

These are the basic items we need, @CoolishName you really gave us zero information to go off of other than it doesn't work.

I am pretty sure my router was a NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band WiFi Router, I’ll check on the network card drivers.

Does the machine show as connected but you have no internet? THe issue is most ISPs require some kind of modem. The modem is what authorizes you on to their network. So we need to figure out if its an issue at the router or at the modem.

It says I’m not connected and that no connections are available, it also has an X in front of the Ethernet sign. I have plugged an ethernet in and it still hasn’t worked.

Is this a new computer? It doesn't sound like it but I just want to make sure :)

Have you installed the drivers for the motherboard?

Do other computers/phones/etc. work?

Someone tell me how to get internet. What do I need?

You need to troubleshoot the network card in your computer. Make sure it works. It could be the cable your using is bad, have you tried that on another device?

If new drivers dont work and the cable is good, Id try reinstalling Windows, maybe something got fucked. Or its a bug, and because you had this machine disconnected for a long time, there really is no fix without reinstalling Windows. If you got older hardware and Windows 10 thats another bag of worms. My machine was built in 2013, and I can tell you, Windows 10 some times doesn't like my network card, because after a restart some times it just doesn't work. Another restart is needed to get it to work again.
