Hello Carbide X,

The usage of the drive doesn't really determine if the drive is bad, you better check for bad blocks, if there are software related bad sectors they can be fixed by performing a CHKDSK in your drive:

  • Right-click the drive that you want to check.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the Tools tab.
  • Click the Check now button.
  • In the Check Disk <disk name> window, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box.
If you want to perform a detailed test of the hard drive, you can select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box but the operation can then take a long time. For a first routine check, do not select this option.

Hardware related bad sectors cannot be fixed, if this is the case you better do a backup and dispose the failing unit.

crystaldiskinfo usually shows you how much "% lifetime remaining" your SSD has.

for example,, my sandisk 240GB SSD has about 24000 power on hours, about 4.2TB written to NAND, and is not giving me any sign it's anywhere near its way out yet.

while very informative.. it does apply less to SSDs than to hard drives, because SSDs have a very predictable lfiespan.

Hours are more indicative of a spinning disk lifespan, a large percentage of the failures are mechanical.

Since SSDs don't have any moving parts, a more reliable indicator of wear is the amount of data written to them, which you should be able to see within Samsung Magician.  There are some other SSD Lifespan type of parameters within SMART as well.
