EVGA G2 Supernova 650w 80+ Gold

ASUS Rog Strix 1080 Ti OC

i7 8700K

Samsung NVMe 960 Evo (250GB)

Samsung NVMe 970 Pro (512GB--OS and programs on this drive)

Samsung 850 EVO 1TB (Kontakt Libraries and Steam library)

Micron 1100 2tb SSD (more steam games)

NZXT Kraken M22

aaaaannnnnnnnndddd

G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB RAM kit 2400 2x16 15-15-15-35

Now, I want to upgrade my RAM, and I saw a few considerable prices on Newegg:

1) CORSAIR Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model CMW32GX4M4C3200C16       16-18-18-36             $419.99

2) CORSAIR Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model CMW32GX4M4C3000C15       15-17-17-35              $376.27

3) G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model F4-3000C15Q-32GTZR               15-16-16-35             $415.99

4) G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16Q-32GTZR               16-18-18-38              $399.99

I was really looking for a 3200 14-14-14-34 kit, but they cost more money, so these are more within my budget. I don't really care to pay for the most expensive kit out of this list. Is it easier to OVERCLOCK speed or DECREASE the timing?? Would I be able to modify kit #3 to 3200Mhz and beyond and set the timings to 14-14-14-34? All help much appreciated.

Now, I want to upgrade my RAM,

What's the reason for the upgrade? Just to something with a faster frequency?

Are you planning on selling your current RAM second hand after the upgrade, and if so, how much are you expecting to be able to sell it for (realistically)? - if not then $400+ just for higher frequency isn't worth it.

I wanted to OC the new RAM as well, since my current kit is unstable with ANY OCing.

The aorus gaming 7 sucks for messing with ram. Tbh I wouldn't waste your time and money for 600mhz of the same amount of ram your good with 32. The more you have windows just usses more anyways lol

thanks @Spotty, @O9B0666

@O9B0666, thanks for the info. Can you please elaborate as to why my mobo Is not good for OC'ing? Would I rather buy a 64gb kit, then?? See, I've also been considering getting MORE ram, as I'm into music production as well. I use a bunch of sound libraries and every couple of months I end up buying more effects and libraries. I still wonder if at this point 64GB of RAM is overkill for music production.......

I can't say whether in your case you need this or that much but I know from having the same board how crappy overclocking ram is. I tried cheap stuff and a better 16 kit and the tiny tiny gain it gives isn't worth it cuz it's stable through benches then random freezing in games or long hiccups. Just leaving it stock speed at 2666mhz works best FOR ME and that's the recommendation for speed for this cpu so... But if anything for you I'd keep what you got once it starts being a issue the ram, just get more. I don't know what music production eats up but selling 2400 for new 3000/3200 I wouldn't think is worth the loss in money.

You'd be giving up $170 for what will equate to a very small, likely unnoticeable, improvement.
It's really not worth it. Stick with what you have.
