DT990 does very well for "fun" gaming with above neutral bass punch.

Also Beyerdynamic sells basically every part of it as spare part, if something wears down.

(which can't be said from many things nowadays)

But those fashion "DACs" don't have anything going for them for gaming.

With sorry state of game sounds for proper immersion in games you'll need something to take 5.1/7.1 sound from game and simulate direction dependant binaural cues.

Most sound cards have offered that as standard feature for over decade.

While as dumb single purpose devices those fashion DACs obviously lack anything such.

And even for just stereo music they don't really have anything special.

Better sound cards have very good D/A converters (that's what DAC means) all the way to top level ones and there are sound cards with headphone outputs good enough for basically any headphone.

And some Sound BlasterX AE-5 is basically cheap compared to those "audiophile" fashion brands.

(Sound BlasterX G5 is mostly comparable if having no free PCI-e slots)

Not that DT990 needs any strong output to reach hearing dangerous volumes.

Its efficiency (need of electric power per dB) is quite average and because of impedance it doesn't draw much current.

I was just gonna say you probably don't need additional amp if you run a good motherboard, but oh well

Just make sure to set volume for low value or Headphone gain to normal before connecting headphones/listening something.

250 ohm DT990 doesn't need special output to be loud and full output of AE-5 would be seriously loud.

So better to start with safe settings than by exersizing stretching limits of ear drums.

Schiit Stack is fine. Get the DT880 over the DT990. 990 is painful to listen to, way too much treble.

This is extremely incorrect. Virtual 7.1 worsens directional audio. You can’t have surround in headphones. Sound cards are trash compared to an external DAC/Amp.
