New Rig Brainstorm

Hello everyone!

I want to build a new gaming PC in 1-2 months. I made a part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/v8VFXP

Wanted to see if people approve the new build or if anyone has any recommendations regarding the list. The PC would run on 2 1080P monitors, used for general office work and gaming.

Part picker shows that the price is around 1000 $ but i have to mention that here (Europe) it will cost me around 1600$ and that is max on my current budget. I should also mention that i would like to go with the Intel/Nvidia combo.

My concerns (also opened a poll for this):

1) I5 vs I7. I see that everyone says that I5 is more than enough for gaming. I've always worked with I7's, it's kind of hard to say goodbye to hyperthreading ...

2) Initially i was thinking on getting a 1080 or 1070 but prices here are still massive as in they haven't crashed like in the rest of the world. Doing some research and considering that I'll play only in 1080P i see that everyone recommends 1050TI or 1060. That sounds under-powered for me.... Again, interested if you guys think I can make it for the next 3 years in High/Ultra details +60 Fps with a 1060 6Gb. OR maybe i should wait for the next gen of GPU's?

3) Will the radiator fit in the case? Any other compatibility issues?

Let me know if you have any ideas, opinions, questions!

Thanks!

Update #1 after initial discussions:

Initial build:https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pQt38Y

Alternative build after taking into account your feedback: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NcZcMZ

For more or less the same money i upgraded :

-I5k to locked i7

-1060 -> 1070TI

Downgraded:

- Corsair liquid cooler -> Noctua air cooler

- Z370 board -> locked B360 board

having an i7 is nice but you won't see much of a difference in gaming with a 1060. also, you can't oc with a B360 board, get an i5 8400 and use the stock cooler, save the money for a better gpu.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

You should get a z370 motherboard because you are getting an unlocked skew and ram faster than 2666. If you don't wan to over clock then just get 2666 ram and locked cpu. Also you most probably only need 1 extra case fan as you get 2 default.

  • CPU
    I5-8400
  • Motherboard
    Gigabyte B360 ds3h
  • RAM
    2*8gb Vengence 2400 ddr4
  • GPU
    ASUS gtx 1060
  • Case
    Fractal define c mini windowed
  • Storage
1tb WD blue and 240gb sandisk ssd
  • PSU
    550w bronze corsair cxm (grey)
  • Operating System
    windows 10

you can always change country on partpicker tho

edit,
Why 2 1tb drives, in the same price you can get 3tb

edit 2
dont go with K cpu if you are not taking z370
go for nvme ssd, not standard sata

for i5 nice 50-70$ air cooler is more than enough

So, I would rather go the i5 8400 and just use the stock cooler - you can't OC with that board anyway, so why bother. Also, maybe consider getting a FE 1060, they seem to be quite cheap and the cooler is DEFINITLY enough for a 1060.

And a 1060 6Gb is even enough for WQHD, so don't worry about that.

IDK if the case supports 140mm fans, if yes, get some BeQuiet! Pure Wings 2 140mm PWM. I've got one meself and it's awesome.

My bad with the board. I actually want to OC that's why i wanted the H2o cooler .
If i actually get a better GPU in the future will the I5 drag the entire build down? Are you referring to the general bottleneck or something more complex?

Thanks man! My country is too insignificant to have a section in partpicker haha

2x1 tb for keeping important data on both

My bad on the Motherboard i actually want to OC

Agreed on the SSD

yeah, but why you need 2tb in 2 hdd, when you can have 3tb in 1 HDD for cheaper

you'll be GPU bottlenecked with a 1060, so the extra performance from hyperthreading won't show. it won't drag the build down but the i5 will start bottlenecking sooner than the i7, so i'd recommend getting an i7 8700 instead of an unlocked i5.

So in case that one is destroyed i still have data on the other one? And anyway here 3TB hardrives are uber expensive

thats the way, get a cheaper board with a little bit more expensive cpu

Yes, Z370 is OC-Capable. The original board posted isn't tho. And the FE Design should still be enough to cool a 1060, isn't it the same on 1060(Ti), 1070(Ti) and 1080(Ti)?

OK.

I updated the list https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

New Z370 board as everyone recommended since i want to OC the CPU

New M2 SSD

For an extra 100 euro i can get the I7 unlocked but i feel like if i get that money i should put it in the GPU instead of the CPU :S

Yep i updated that. To be honest with you i'm sure the cooler would be enough. But i'm a bit of a control freak when it comes to temps. Also in the summer it gets to around 40 C ambient amount here....it wouldn't be a huge price difference here between the FE and a OEM one so i would prefer to have the extra head room.
