Hello! I am on a seriously tight budget, but I pretty much need a new PC. And I know pretty much nothing about computers.

-It must be able to do video and sound editing, hopefully some computer modeling.

-I would like it to be able to play a game like Skyrim, Legendary Edition, on Ultra graphics. And pretty much any other game I throw at it (On any graphics setting) for at least a few years now.

Overall, I want a computer that will last me well into the future with minimal upgrading or maintenance, even if I won't be able to do everything at it's best. I have about $700 on hand right now, and want the computer ASAP, but if I could get a considerable performance boost by spending even several hundred more, I'd rather go with that and wait.

Edit: At the same time, if I could get a PC that was just capable of editing and still able to play a few games for ~$300, that would be fantastic for a short-term solution!

Do you need a monitor mouse/keyboard/headphones?

I'd stick to medium/high settings, ultra tanks performance for basically no gain.

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I have a mouse and keyboard, and headphones can wait. I do need a monitor, but that's good point about ultra. I'd rather get a cheap monitor to save on cost, and that wouldn't even be able to render higher-end graphics, would it?

I do have a TV, so monitor can always be a separate purchase well down the line

$700 gets you an R7 1700 and a GTX 1050ti right now, GPU pricing still kind of sucks otherwise.

Could also just spend like $400 on an R3 2200G PC and toss in a better GPU later.

Better off with the golden sample RX 580 at $269

But that means getting an R3 2200G for now instead of a cheap R7

Of which the R3 2200G will be fine for gaming at 60hz

Thank you so much for these lists, especially so fast.

Two follow-up questions: When the GPU prices finally do drop, what sort of price range do you think we'd be looking at, in about how long?

And, this is a bit of a change of direction, but would I be able to accomplish basic video editing (And still, maybe some gaming) with a much cheaper computer? Something closer to $300? I'm still just a novice, I probably won't be getting into any heavy projects anytime soon while I hone my skills. My software is Vegas Pro 14 and MAGIX music maker. I don't need it done fast, just as long as it can do it (Though I am desperate to start gaming again :P)

An R5 2400G will be fine if you're just doing 1080p editing.

Probably still want 16GBs of RAM for that though.

Thanks! Would I be getting much gaming capability out of this?

720p high, 1080p low/medium pretty much. My choice would be this, since it will give you a great base to upgrade later and will do 1080p high no problem. That monitor is a steal btw for a 1080p IPS.

No it's like half the speed of an RX 560, and a good deal slower than an RX 580, but it does leave you extra cash for an RX 580 upgrade in the near future

If you just buy that R7 1700 system you can easily upgrade the GPU when the next generation drops in months, a 1050ti will be fine for 1080p gaming.
