I have steam installed on my ssd because whenever I had it on my hdd it would crash and nothing would work, but now whenever I try to install games onto my hdd it still crashes and I have no idea why.  I also get transfer problems when I try to put files in general on my hdd anybody have any idea what might be wrong?

I think you might have a bad harddrive. I am trying to think of what programs I use to test harddrives and am drawing a blank. Sorry. Hopefully someone else chimes in, or when I remember I will post it.

EDIT: http://www.hdtune.com/

It can do a hhd data check, as well as tell your SMART errors and other issues that might be present.

I don't think I have a bad drive because it was working fine before I installed my ssd but thanks for your response anyway

Hmm. Well, unless the wire got slightly knocked out, I am not sure what could be the issue. Check the wires, and just for the heck of it run HDTune anyways? I have never seen an issue like that besides it being a bad drive personally.

The problems started when the SSD was installed?

Ya the problems started when the ssd was installed

Do you share the SATA power connector (like from same cable) between SSD and HDD ? I suspect unstable power to your HDD

Ya I do I've just always done that between the cd drive and the hdd so I assumed that the power cable wasn't the issue

try replacing your HDD's Sata cable and checking the power cable to the HDD is ok.
Try running a HDD test on you HDD. I find the western digital life guard software is pretty good for testing HDD's (not SSD's). use the extened test.

If the HDD tests ok then it could be a corrupt partition table or file system, in which case you might want to run a full check disk on your hdd too.
