Is my graphics card faulty?

What
Go to solution Solved by EYCEthebest003,

probably.  If you want to make absolute sure, you can try the card on a different computer, but it sounds like the card may have died or is causing a short somewhere.

I was using my computer and it turned itself off suddenly. Unable to power on after that. I tried unplugging the pcie connector on the graphics card and I was able to power on the computer. Plug the pcie connector into the card again and the computer can't be power on. I changed to an older graphics card and my computer is running fine now. Could this problem be cause by my graphics card?

Specs:

i5 3570k

EVGA GTX 670

Asus P8Z77-V

2x 4gb Corsair Dominator Platinum

Seasonic X-650 power supply

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

your powersupply may have degraded to the point where your main graphics card draws too much power for the powersupply to handle.  If you could throw your main gpu in another computer to see if it works, then its probably the powersupply.  Obviously if you have a spare powersupply lying around, you could test it on your own rig.

Thanks for the fast respond. I will try testing it with a spare power supply.

I don't think it would have "degraded", maybe something internally broke on it, or your card is somehow shorting it out. A Seasonic X-650 should have no issue powering that rig, even if it was old and worn down.

Yup. I have tried testing with another power supply. Still the same result. As long as the pcie connector is plugged into the graphics card, the computer simply wouldn't turn on. So can I conclude that the card is faulty?
