A clean install of Windows is the only option if you are planning to swap your motherboard. Especially if you want to avoid headaches further down the line. ;)

The point of reinstalling windows is to make sure windows gets the correct drivers and applies the correct Windows settings for your new hardware.
If you have windows 10, make sure you linked your key to a Microsoft account and that its a retail key, if you want windows activation to go smoothly after you reinstall.

Unless you have a K series processor you can grab a B360 mobo instead for cheaper. Z series mobos are only really needed with the K series.

Other than that follow the steps mentioned above

What RAM configuration are you currently using?
Really the only difference in RAM with the board you have and what you are planning on upgrading to is the number of DIMM slots.
You may be better off replacing your existing RAM instead of buying a new motherboard just so you can add more DIMMs to your existing RAM. For the cost of the new motherboard you could probably just buy 2x8GB sticks instead.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

Motherboard - $130
2x4GB RAM - $80
Total: $210

2x8GB RAM = $150
Total: $150

Makes more sense to just buy a 2x8GB kit to replace the 2x4GB kit rather than buying a whole new motherboard just so you can add to your existing RAM.
